| Observation Chart/Victim
Record |
When help arrives it is important to pass on as much accurate information as possible. This will enable the professionals to make a swift assessment of the victim’s condition and to decide on the next most appropriate course of action. While waiting for help to arrive, make regular checks on the patient and, if circumstances allow, record your findings.
An observation chart/victim record has two main purposes:
- To provide information to the health professionals to help them to make an accurate diagnosis of the victim’s condition. The Glasgow Coma Scale is a widely used score that helps to provide information on whether a victim’s condition is improving or deteriorating over time.
- To meet legal requirements. If you are acting as a first responder in the workplace or in any other formal setting, check the recording requirements of your role.
Right
Check on progress at regular intervals, keep the victim comfortable, and offer reassurance. |
